Teacher using SIPPS® in classroom

Implementation

In most districts, the SIPPS® program is used for intervention. Classroom teachers or reading specialists work with small groups of students in:

  • Classroom settings
  • School-day pull-out programs
  • After school programs
  • Intersession classes
  • Summer school programs

Initial and ongoing assessment helps ensure that students begin with the appropriate instruction and that they move through the material successfully and quickly. The goal is that students master the content, becoming accurate and fluent readers in the process.

Professional development can help teachers perfect the routines used to teach decoding skills, something especially important when students are English Language Learners.
