Spelling patterns

Students usually begin this level knowing at least 50 sight words and being able to read and spell simple short-vowel-pattern words. By the middle of this level, they will be reading books like this. By the end, they will be able to read single-syllable words with complex vowels and more than 150 high-frequency irregular words. They will be reading simple trade books.
