Beginning Level

Instructional content:

• Phonemic awareness
• Short vowels
• Single consonants
• Sight words

Goals for students:

• Understand and use short vowels
• Know 73 sight words
• Read and spell new words

• Final e and r-controlled vowels and vowel digraphs
• High-frequency sight words

Goals for students:

• Read single-syllable words with complex vowels
• Read more than 150 high-frequency irregular words

• Morphemic roots
• Prefixes and suffixes
• High-frequency academic vocabulary at three developmental levels
• Sight syllables and their meanings

Goals for students:

• Read polysyllabic words with accuracy and increasing fluency
