Teachers will receive carefully planned professional development. Novice teachers as well as seasoned veterans will find their thinking and experience valued. This support can take the form of hands-on workshops, coaching, and studying lessons.

Workshops

During a one–day workshop participants will:

  • Explore the program components
  • Discuss ways to build caring and supportive environments
  • Learn how to facilitate student conversations
  • Learn strategies that enhance cooperation among students
  • Explore strategies that build community within and across classrooms
  • View and discuss video vignettes of classroom practices

Classroom Support

DSC staff developers can provide one-on-one support for teachers. This support often involves; careful planning of a lesson together, lesson observation, modeling, or co-teaching; and a reflective debrief of the lesson. This model can also be adapted for small groups of teachers, such as grade level groups.
