SIPPS Plus
Alphabetic Principle and Spelling Patterns
Although students can typically read a number of words and may also remember some phonics from previous reading instruction, no particular knowledge is assumed. By the end of this level, students will be able to read single-syllable words with complex vowels and more than 190 high-frequency irregular words. During SIPPS Plus, students use a paperback collection of stories that both match instruction and respect student interests.
Instructional content:
- Phoneme awareness: blending, segmentation and manipulation
- Phonics: consonants, consonant digraphs, short vowels, beginning with consonant blends and final e, then moving on to vowel digraphs, r-controlled vowels, and generalizations for c and y
- High-frequency sight words: both regular and irregular
