Response to Intervention

The SIPPS program is effective in RtI models because its approach matches the needs of students. The program can be used in Tiers I and II.

Assessment

  • A placement assessment ensures that students receive only the instruction they need.
  • Frequent mastery tests demonstrate that students progress.

Structured, Systematic Instruction

  • In Beginning and Extension Levels and SIPPS® Plus, daily routines enable students to be successful by focusing on phoneme awareness, phonics, sight words, Guided Spelling™, and daily reading
  • In Challenge Level, daily routines teach sight syllables, morphemic transformations, dividing syllables, reading entire words, Guided Spelling™, and fluency practice.

Flexible Grouping and Pacing

  • SIPPS® curriculum allows teachers to speed up or slow down instruction based on students’ needs.
  • SIPPS® instruction takes place in small groups of 3–6 students

Text that Matches Instruction

  • Students in the SIPPS® program read material that matches the instruction they are receiving to guarantee they are getting the right kind of practice.
