   The program consists of multiweek units that build students’ number sense, estimation, mental computation, and mathematical problem-solving abilities, as well as their social development.
The program also includes: • The use of manipulatives, calculators, and writing • Open-ended questions to extend students’ thinking • Ideas for lesson extensions • Informal assessment strategies • Tips for implementing cooperative work • Blackline masters for transparencies and record sheets Optional materials Supplemental trade books are available to enhance lessons in grades K, 2, and 3.
