Independent reading can be a powerful learning experience when students have engaging books at appropriate levels. Optional libraries, organized by grade level and readability, enable teachers to ensure they have books for students to choose during the Individualized Daily Reading (IDR) portion of the Making Meaning® program.

The Making Meaning® lessons refer to alternative books that teachers can use for strategy instruction. The books in the Comprehension Strategies Libraries (CSL), each chosen for teaching a specific strategy, enable teachers to repeat a week of instruction or to tie independent reading practice to specific strategies.
