How the Libraries Are Leveled
Leveled reading books are the key to successful and empowering Individualized Daily Reading implementation. Students must work with books that they can comprehend and read fluently with few errors.
Reading Levels
The IDR development team discussed and evaluated every book for inclusion and placement in the correct leveled collection. Guided Reading levels, Lexile levels, journal reviews, classroom experiences, and student response were all considered when determining where to place a book.
Fountas and Pinnell Leveling System
Irene Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell's Guided Reading system for book leveling assigns each book a letter (A–Z) based on the degree of challenge it represents.
The Lexile Framework
The Lexile system uses a sophisticated formula to determine reading ability and text difficulty on the same scale, indicated by a number.
Library Organization
Each grade has a separate library that contains 24 ten-book collections. The collections are organized by difficulty. For extra support, Guided Reading levels and Lexile levels are provided where available.
