What an incredible group of caring, committed, and knowledgeable educators attended this event! I was so impressed by the participants in my breakout sessions and the evidence of understanding they demonstrated about what really matters for kids in the classroom. Let's keep the conversations going around deepening comprehension and helping students read, write, talk about, and use the vocabulary we want them to learn. What's working for you?
Keeping the conversation going
The power of conversation to enhance comprehension was evident throughout the literacy leadership conference. My goal for 2010, is to be present, really present in the conversations that I have with my colleagues. It is through this thoughtful medium that a lasting difference can occur for our teachers and students.
I am also starting to think a great deal about the idea of being "full present" in our teaching. I am thinking this might be a good direction for some of my new work - the idea that we can provide teachers with real ways to pay better attention to student thinking.
The best of everything. Starting the day with David Pearson- and it's not his slides that say so much, though they are great, it's what he says during the slides. I wish I had taken short hand! The breakouts were very informative and fun. Ending the day with Peter Brunn was a real gift, no pun intended. I have already read his book and I'm starting lesson planning with the kids in mind. I think it will go splendidly if I keep that thought foremost in my mind.
Thank you so much for planniing an incredible day of learning.
