Thanksgiving Note to My Family

Read More:

This is more of a personal note than a blog.

As many of you know, I spend a great deal of the year traveling to schools and districts throughout the country. I am lucky to have the privilege of visiting so many wonderful places and working with some amazing teachers. In the next three weeks alone (including today), I will be working in Las Vegas, Chicago, Kansas City, Orlando, and Anaheim. While I love this work and have seen some fantastic progress in schools, it comes at a cost.

Life is always a balance of family and work. With my travel, work, and writing schedule, sometimes this life of mine can seem a bit out of balance. So I work hard when I am at home to try to bring things back into equilibrium. Somehow we seem to make it work.

The key word in the sentence above is “we." I could not do any of my work without support and love. My wife Nina and my daughter Karina have been patient, supportive, and understanding as I bounce in and out of their lives. They listen to my airport woes and my hotel nightmares. They laugh at my blunders and share the successes of my special work with teachers and students. I could not do this work without their help.

So as I sit in a hotel in Las Vegas, ready to come home and begin our Thanksgiving holiday, I just wanted to take a few moments to say “Thank You” to them. Nina and Karina, I love you.

Thanks for indulging me.

Happy Thanksgiving.
