Thank You for Speaking Up for the Children
The recent article "Every Child, Every Day" posted in the Educational Leadership section of the ASCD website by Richard L. Allington and Rachael E. Gabriel sparked internal conversation at Developmental Studies Center (DSC). Here are some of the public comments posted on Facebook about it.
Linda Rourke (DSC National Consultant)
"Here, we outline six elements of instruction that every child should experience every day. Each of these elements can be implemented in any district and any school, with any curriculum or set of materials, and without additional funds. All that's necessary is for adults to make the decision to do it.
Educator friends, lets be the adults with the courage to 'just say no' to useless worksheets, time-wasters, and test-prep and do what works: Let kids read, write, and talk about REAL books that they CAN and CHOOSE to read EVERY SINGLE DAY."
Pat Eastman (DSC Independent Rep)
"If you have a child in school, or a grandchild, or know a teacher or are a teacher, can you please re-post this article by Dick Allington? Dr. Allington does a fantastic job of boiling down what every child, in every classroom needs to become a true learner. If we are serious about reforming education in this country, these are the 6 things that need to happen for every child, every day."
Okapi Educational Publishing, Inc. (DSC Partner)
"Please read and share this timely article by Dr. Richard Allington. If we are serious about education reform, these are the 6 things that need to happen with every child, every day!"
Alexis Rapp (DSC Consultant)
"Not only do I wish this for ALL children, I wish this for my sons."
Closing with my own public Facebook comment:
"This is how Developmental Studies Center hopes all children will learn to read and write! Love my work."
